A temporary worker who allegedly stole condemned Very High Frequency (VHF) sets from the store at the District Police Office at Subramanianpuram here was arrested recently.

Along with the worker P. Srinivasan, 44, the K. K. Nagar Crime Police also arrested K. Kanakaraj, 50, - a scrap dealer to whom the condemned VHF sets were allegedly sold by the former.

The crime came to light after a woman Sub Inspector of Police attached to the Technical Wing of the Tiruchi Rural Police detected that some of the condemned VHF sets were missing while carrying out checks at the store.

Police sources said during inquiry it came to light that the worker had been stealing the condemned sets since August last week from the store.

The sources further said the worker had stolen it to consume alcohol. The Tiruchi Rural Police had stocked the condemned sets in the store to be handed over to the State police headquarters.

Inquiries with Srinivasan revealed that he had sold the sets to Kanakaraj of Sangiliandapuram leading to the arrest of the latter on the charge of buying stolen property.

Police recovered a few broken sets from the scrap dealer.

Both accused were arrested on Saturday with the K. K. Nagar Crime police registering a case against them under IPC sections 380 (theft) and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) on a complaint preferred by a woman Sub Inspector of the Technical Wing of the Tiruchi Rural Police.
