UDAIPUR: Around 350 children and 50 teachers of a private school have been stranded in Bhainsroadgarh gram panchayat, Chittorgarh, since Saturday afternoon due to incessant showers and outflow of water from the two dams of the region.
Due to torrential rain in Madhya Pradesh, the Gandhi Sagar Dam received heavy inflow of water and the sluice gates were opened. Water from another dam at Ranapratap Sagar too has submerged the roads of the entire village. The students who went to school on Saturday could not return home since the roads are completely flooded.
“The children and staff are absolutely safe. Our ADM, four patwaris and other officials including the local SHO are stationed in the school to monitor the situation,” collector Shivangi Swarnakar told TOI. On being criticised that the administration failed to rescue the stranded people even after 24 hours, the collector said that the people are not stranded, they are just disconnected for the time being. “We have considered all options to take them out from the school, however, our priority is safety. It is not advisable that the children should be transported through any other way as all the roads are flooded. Parents are in touch with the school management and the officials. They have given their consent to let the children stay in the school until the water recedes,” the collector said.
Arrangements for food and bedding have been done with the help of the villagers. Some students have been shifted to the second branch of the school in the village. Ram Gurjar, SDM-Rawatbhata told TOI that once the outflow decreases, necessary steps will be taken to take back the children safely to their homes.
