Chhota Udepur lashed by 105mm in 2 hrs

Incessant downpour flooded the town
Vadodara: Parts of central Gujarat were lashed by heavy rainfall till Sunday morning resulting in swelling of rivers and increase in water levels at several reservoirs. Several trees were uprooted and a house collapsed in Panchmahal district.
The Chhota Udepur taluka received 105mm rain in just two hours early on Sunday morning resulting in waterlogging in the town. The Kusum Sagar pond in the centre of the town also started overflowing from the incessant downpour.
Due to the heavy rains in the district on Saturday night, authorities released water from Sukhi dam resulting in fresh inflow of waters in Orsang and Bharaj rivers. A tractor drowned at Lodhan village in Pavi Jetpur taluka as water level in Bharaj river suddenly increased. Locals said that the driver and cleaner of the tractor abandoned the vehicle and escaped with their lives as the river swelled.

Meanwhile, water was also released from Panam dam due to which Mahisagar river continued to remain in spate even on Sunday. In Shehra taluka of Panchmahal district a kutcha house belonging to Harish Thakor collapsed. While the family was away at their farm, Thakor’s elderly mother, who was alone at home, was rescued by their neighbours. She sustained minor injuries on her left arm.
Later during the day, the intensity of rains decreased, but the district administrations remained vigilant and also kept people living near the riverbanks on alert.
