Punjab: Honking leaves civil engineer injured

CHANDIGARH: An auto driver allegedly attacked a civil engineer with an iron rod in a case of road rage near the old airport light point on Saturday morning.
Raj Kumar (38), a resident of Zirakpur, said he was returning home after his night shift at his company in Industrial Area, Phase I, on his Honda Activa scooter around 9 am.
As he reached a slip road near the light point, he found the auto driver driving on the middle of the road while talking over his phone. Kumar said he honked for pass, but the auto driver did not give way. Later, he stopped the auto, took out an iron rod and attacked him. Kumar received injuries on his right eye and other parts of body.

Kumar raised the alarm, prompting a home guard volunteer and others to rush to his aid. They caught the accused and informed police helpline 100. A PCR (police control room) vehicle took the injured to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32. Kumar received four stitches on his forehead and was discharged. Cops from Mauli Jagran brought the accused to the police station and impounded his vehicle.
Police said a DDR (daily diary report) was lodged and Kumar told them that he would lodge a formal complaint on Sunday. Further action would be taken against the accused as per his statement, cops said.
