Karnataka: CISF personnel thwart attempt to smuggle foreign currency at Mangaluru Airport

MANGALURU: Air security group (ASG) of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on duty at Mangaluru international airport on Sunday thwarted attempt by a Dubai bound passenger to smuggle foreign currency.

The incident came to light at the security hold area of the airport at 7pm during frisking process when a CISF officer detected foreign currency in the possession of Harry Stephen Anthony D'Souza, who was booked to travel to Dubai on board Air India flight IX 813.
Sources in CISF privy to this detection told TOI that the approximate value of recovered foreign currency is Rs 5.88-lakh which includes Dirham equivalent to Rs 29,32,91 and US Dollar equivalent to Rs 29,47,75. The ASG personnel of CISF handed over the recovered currency along with the passenger to the customs officials for further necessary action. The Custom officials promptly off loaded the passenger and have initiated investigation in to the source of the currency.
