HUBBALLI: The office of the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), which is functioning in Bengaluru since April 1982, will soon be shifted to Hubballi, the headquarters of South Western Railway. minister of state for railway
Suresh Angadi made this announcement after flagging off the new bi-weekly special express
train between
Hubballi and Chennai here on Saturday.
Calling upon Karnataka candidates to make good use of the opportunities through the RRB, Angadi said local youths should attend RRB exams in other states too.
Angadi said he had instructed railway officials to restart service of the Golden Chariot, a palace on wheels which is lying unattended in Mysuru.
“It might have failed in the past. If state government or tourism department is not ready to take up this service, our IRCTC will take it up to promote tourism in Karnataka. This chariot will resume its operation by Dasara,” he said.
Angadi said the railway department was giving equal importance to both general bogies in which poor people travel and AC cars. “We have instructed officials to maintain cleanliness everywhere irrespective of the class of journey,” he said.
To reduce traffic at Bengaluru City station, Angadi claimed he was ensuring upgradation of Baiyappanahalli station on a war footing. “If Baiyappanahalli is ready as an alternative station, we can operate more stations through Bengaluru, which caters to the needs of all districts of Karnataka and neighbouring states,” he said.
Later speaking to reporters, he said another coach terminal was being built at Kotegangur in Shivamogga district.
