K. Muraleedharan, MP, has sought a probe into the death of a contractor at Cherupuzha in Kannur district, who constructed a building for the Leader K. Karunakaran Smaraka Trust run by local Congress leaders.
Joseph Muthuparakunnel, the contractor, was found dead on the terrace of the building with his wrist slashed on September 5. His relatives lodged a complaint with the police that he had ended his life after the building owners failed to pay his dues.
Addressing the media on Sunday, Mr. Muraleedharan also demanded restrictions on trusts and institutions in his father’s name. “Our family is not responsible for those who run trusts in Karunakaran’s name. The official trust is headed by Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala. Nobody else should be allowed to collect money or involve in financial transactions,” the Vadakara MP said. Mr. Muraleedharan also said that he would request the Congress party to desist from floating trusts or institutions in Karunakaran’s name.
“Joseph’s family has alleged that he had been murdered. We will cooperate with the government probe. If party members are involved in the incident, they should be expelled,” the Congress leader said.
