Bhopal: The Malayali community and United Malayalee Association in the city is all geared up to celebrate Onam on 14th September 2019 at Campion School, Auditorium, Bhopal. As a prelude to the festival, association showcased a kaleidoscope of Kerala art forms in Sree Narayana Mission Auditorium, Subhash Nagar on 8th September 2019. Athapoov (floral rangoli) competition and Vallam kali (snake boat race) were performed by the members enthralling the feelings of fervor and reminiscence of the past.
During the celebration on Saturday, the donors who selflessly contributed for the rehabilitation of Kerala Flood victims 2018 will be felicitatedfollowed by a variety of cultural programmes. ChakyarKoothu, a traditional dance form of Kerala and a highly refined monologue where the performer narrates episodes from Hindu epics and at times makes it a comedy act by incorporating commentaries on the present scenario, being performed by renowned artist Pothyil Narayana Chakyar and team will be the centre of attraction of the celebrations. Other traditional art forms would also be presented on the occasion; said President Shri C. Ashokan, United Malayalee Association.

Celebrated in August-September, the annual harvest festival falls on 22nd Nakshatra Thiruvonam in the Malayalam calendar called Chingam. The state seeps into festive mood during this 10-day festival that started on September 1 and will be on till September 13.

Ashokan, President, United Malayalee Association also Said “ Onam is an apt reflection of how good governance is the aspiration of all citizens, irrespective of caste and religion.The festival is celebrated by all Malayalee natives to honour the annual homecoming of the benevolent mythical mythical demon king Bali who was banished from his land by Lord Vishnu in Vamana avatar. The Keralite community in the city is already in a festive mood.
