SILCHAR: In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pledge to have a plastic-free India, minister for public health engineering Rihon Daimari launched the statewide 'Swacchata Hi Seva' awareness drive in
Silchar on Thursday in a bid to make
Assam a plastic-free state.
Addressing a function here, Daimari said a special drive would be carried out across the state from September 11 to October 2 to stop single-use plastic. "This is how we shall pay our tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his birth anniversary. Echoing the spirit of Prime Minister Modi to make India plastic-free, we have resolved to spread awareness among the masses. I urge upon everyone to step up and participate in the mission," said Daimari.
Minister of forest and environment Parimal Suklabaidya and Silchar MLA Dilip Kumar Paul also addressed the gathering.
