MADURAI: Two youths were arrested for attacking a
pani puri seller with a sickle after he demanded money from them for the snacks they had consumed. Though the incident took place late on Tuesday night, it came to light only on Wednesday, after the victim approached the police to lodge a complaint after undergoing treatment in a hospital.
The accused were identified as R Vijaypandi, 25, from Ponmeni and his friend R Senthurapandian, 25, from HMS Colony. Dheeraj Gupta, 42, the pani puri seller suffered cut injuries on his head and hand. In his complaint, Gupta said that the duo used to have pani puri frequently, but never paid. Whenever he asked for money, they used to tell him that they will pay later. They would eat for a minimum of Rs 60 on every occasion. On Tuesday too, they tried leaving the place after having snacks. When Gupta asked the duo to pay at least Rs 60, it irked them.
Vijayapandi took out a sickle from the car in which they had come and
attacked Gupta. Senthurapandian too took a wooden log and attacked him.
The SS Colony police registered a case on Wednesday and arrested the accused. They were produced before a judicial magistrate and lodged in prison.
