HYDERABAD: Growing dissent by
TRS MLAs who were denied a ministerial berth in the recent cabinet expansion is fuelling a rebellion that could hurt the ruling party's image hard. In a fresh note of dissent, the lone Muslim legislator of the pink party from Bodhan, Shakeel Aamir Mohammed, on Thursday met BJP MP Arvind
Dharmapuri triggering speculation that he is likely to switch over to the saffron party.
Shakeel's grouse is that the ruling party leaders are ignoring him and giving prominence to MIM.
The MLA from Bodhan assembly constituency in
Nizamabad district met Arvind at his residence in Hyderabad on Thursday.
Shakeel is unhappy for not being inducted into the state cabinet in the recent expansion. There is only one Muslim minister, Mohd Mahmood Ali, who is member of
Legislative Council and is considered to be a close aide of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
After his meeting with Arvind, Shakeel told TOI that though he is the only elected Muslim MLA from the TRS, he was not considered for a ministerial berth.
"I got elected as MLA twice from the same constituency despite a BJP wave across the state. In the 2019
Lok Sabha elections, former MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha secured majority in the Bodhan assembly constituency. Despite that my services are not recognized," he lamented.
‘I have not taken any final decision’The TRS legislator said he met the Nizamabad MP on his own and there was no invitation from the BJP to join the party.
“When gross injustice is done to me and there is no political future in the TRS, Iam thinking whether to continue in the party or not. However, I have not taken any final decision,” Shakeel said.
Shakeel won from Muslim-dominated Bodhan constituency, with a majority of 8,100 votes in 2018 and 15, 880 votes in 2014 elections against former minister and Congress candidate P Sudarshan Reddy.
Interestingly, if he joins the BJP, Shakeel will be the first sitting MLA to quit the TRS party and join another party. Earlier many former MLAs, MPs and ministers joined the saffron party before the elections. Congress MLA from Munugode in Nalgonda, Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy is also considering joining the BJP for the past few months.
Soon after the assembly elections, 13 Congress and Telugu Desam MLAs joined the TRS. Of them, Sabita Indra Reddy has been made minister in the recent expansion.
