GURUGRAM: Two city-based jewellers are under Gurugram police’s scanner for their links with gangster
Kaushal. The jewellers allegedly used to provide details of other possible
extortion targets to Kaushal.
One of these two jewellers earlier used to give protection money to gangster Sandeep Gadoli, who was killed in a gunfight with
police in Mumbai in 2017. After Gadoli’s death, Kaushal started to collect extortion money from the
jeweller on a regular basis. Kaushal, according to police sources, had met this jeweller before moving to Dubai in the end of 2017.
“These jewellers used to provide details of other traders and jewellers to the gangster for extortion,” said a senior police officer, adding that they are verifying the facts. Kaushal was fast expanding his extortion network in the city and was getting details on his possible targets from several sources. In some cases, people who were paying him ‘protection money’ used to share details of other traders for a reduction in the extortion amount.
Gurugram police on Thursday produced Kaushal before a local court on completion of his police remand and took him into six-days’ remand in connection with murder of Vijay Batra alias Tantrik. Earlier, city police had taken Kaushal on transit remand from Faridabad.
“Around 20 FIRs are registered against Kaushal in Gurugram. We had earlier taken him into custody in connection with the JD murder case. Now, we have taken him into custody in connection with another murder case,” the officer said.
Gurugram police has formed a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the cases related to Kaushal.
A team of Gurugram police had also questioned around 7-8 people from Delhi in connection with hawala transactions. Police are trying to find out how Kaushal was sent money and who were involved in it.
“We are trying to find out about people associated with Kaushal and their roles in the operation of his extortion business,” the officer added.
