The younger brother of NRL legend and 'Man Shake' founder Adam MacDougall has been found dead, a week after he failed to turn up to a scheduled court appearance.

Scott MacDougall, 38, was due to face Sutherland Local Court on September 2 but never showed and a warrant for his arrest was subsequently issued by a magistrate.

That warrant was subsequently revoked by police this week after the heartbreaking discovery was made.

His brother Adam confirmed the news to Daily Mail Australia on Friday and asked for privacy for his grieving family.

As a youngster Scott looked likely to follow in the footsteps of his father Gil and star brothers Adam, Ben and Luke, by establishing a career in the NRL.

But despite his towering frame and promising trials at St George, injuries meant he never made it to first grade.

In fact his rugby league career is best remembered for an incident while playing for the North Sydney Bears in July 2002.

While his brother Adam - a star for Newcastle, New South Wales and Australia - was at the height of his powers, Scott was playing first-division.

After one match in Canberra he was approached by a drug tester from the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) requesting a urine sample.

In response, Scott reportedly jumped a fence and fled the scene.

However in 2014, more than a decade after the incident, he gave his version of what happened that day claiming that he did in fact take the test once back in Sydney.

After the end of his rugby league career Scott went on to become a lawyer, but since then had faced multiple personal battles.

In 2011 his father Gil passed away suddenly after suffering a massive stroke, while in recent years he had faced court over several matters.

He was serving a two-year supervised community corrections order (CCO) following the breach of two AVOs and had just last week been convicted of larceny.

In that same 2014 interview about his drug test, Scott revealed that many sportsmen face  'dark days' despite a common view that they all live the high life.

'I've been there, people don't see the dark days, nights and years that young men go though when they're forced to face the reality that their careers are over,' he said.

'Looking back, I remember thinking to myself: "Scott, your life is never going to be the same."

'Lucky for me it's better. But my heart breaks for those who are not so fortunate.'
