CHARMINAR: Immersion processions went peacefully in the Old City on Thursday. Devotees from different localities carrying Ganesha idols of various sizes in lorries passed through Charminar, Gulzarhouz, Pathergatti, Nayapul amid tight security arrangements.
Crowds were seen carrying flags and buntings along with small Ganesh idols and merging with the main procession routes since morning. The main processions that were taken out from areas such as Balapur, Chandrayangutta, Falaknuma, Enginebowli, Lal Darwaza, Chatrinaka, Uppuguda, Hussaini Alam towards Tank Bund through Charminar.

On the way to immersion spot, temporary stages were put up for to devotees by different organisations and political parties. Water packets, lemon rice and saag puri were distributed devotees near Charminar. “As usual, we set up stages to welcome our devotees on such occasions. It is a sign of unity and brotherhood in Old City,’’ said Mohammed Anas, an organiser.
The Old City also saw RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and Swamy Pragyanand Maharaj visit Charminar and perform puja at the Bhagya Laxmi temple where they also welcomed processions. “We are going towards Tank Bund to immerse our idols. Everyone came together to participate on this occasion and access was made possible for almost everything on our route from Uppuguda,” one of the devotees told TOI.
