MUMBAI: Encounter specialist
Pradeep Sharma, who resigned after serving for 35 years in police department, is trying his luck in the
Maharashtra politics. Sharma may join
Shiv Sena on Friday evening and is likely to contest the upcoming state assembly polls from Nalasopara constituency on the party's ticket.
Nalasopara, a non-Marathi dominated constituency, may be a suitable seat for Sharma, said a Sena functionary.
Currently,
Kshitij Thakur of Bahujan Vikas Aghadi is the sitting MLA from Nalasopara. The constituency is considered a stronghold of Thakurs however, sources said that Sharma may try his luck on this seat because of the huge presence of the North Indian community here.
The Thakur family has a stronghold in
Vasai-Virar belt but chances of getting ticket from Nalasopara would be comparatively easier for Sharma.
