Terrifying footage has captured the moment a man smashed up a hospital ward after doctors tried to throw him out for demanding a bed while his house was being renovated.

The unidentified man originally arrived at Mariupol City Hospital No 1 in Ukraine's Donetsk region complaining of stomach pains.

Over the course of a week he was admitted to various departments while he pretended to have different illnesses until doctors discharged him.

He then became violent and told staff: 'If you refuse me, you will regret it.'

After being thrown out he would frequently return to the hospital and threaten doctors until he was arrested by police.

Once he had been released he went straight back to the hospital and continued his campaign of harassment.

The police were called again but the man would leave before they arrived and then return once they had left.

Footage filmed by someone at the hospital shows the man smashing equipment and stamping on it while onlookers watch in shock.

The head doctor of the ward, Larisa Mamaeva, said the man was noisy and threatened staff and interfered with the work of the department.

Doctors told local media the man's house was being renovated.

Dr Mamaeva added: 'Before that, he was lying in the ward with a reported head injury, and he was discharged.

'But the man decided that he still needed to go to hospital again and a doctor prescribed him treatment.

'Again he was discharged and then he called an ambulance and was hospitalised again, we did an MRI, but again nothing.

'We later found out that he was intending to stay in hospital indefinitely, telling one of the doctors "As long as I want, I will lie here".'

She said he also added: 'If you refuse me, you will regret it.'

Police confirmed that a criminal case has been opened against him in the central department, and that his mental state was being checked and if he was found to be liable, he would be prosecuted and could face up to three years in jail.

Ironically, the man has got his wish and is back in hospital, after a psychiatric team gave him a sedative in order to calm him down and allow experts to assess him.
