BADLAPUR: Fifteen
Shiv Sena workers have been booked for allegedly vandalizing the
office and vehicle of their party corporator, Shailesh Wadnere, from
Badlapur and also assaulting his supporters on Wednesday. The accused include the party's city chief Waman Mahatre and his brother Tukaram.
The accused allegedly beat up Wadnere's supporters when they tried to stop the accused from trying to set fire to the office, said an official of Badlapur (east) police station.
Sources said that a dispute between Wadnere and Mahatre's groups of supporters. "Waman Mahatre, a senior corporator, was not too happy with Wadnere's growing popularity," said a source.
Wadnere's complaint states that at a civic meeting on Wednesday, there was a tiff when supporters of both sides clashed. Waman on his part said that Wadnere's work was against the party's line. The police have deployed personnel in the area due to tension around.
