One of the world’s foremost drumming virtuosos, Swiss artist Jojo Mayer moved into new territory when he started Nerve in 1997. For its time and even today, the band offers a blend of electronic music and jazz in a way that always seemed futuristic. Mayer, behind the drumkit and even as a producer, brings together drum and bass and jungle influences and marries them with jazz in high fashion. As part of his second run of India shows, Mayer is joined John Davis on bass, Jacob Begson on keys and synth and Aaron Nevezie on live production and what is described as “realtime audio deconstruction” on the band’s website. They will be joined by Chennai rock frontrunners The F16s, who recently released their new EP WKND FRNDS and an opening set by Killpop, which comprises The F16s’ keyboardist Harshan Radhakrishnan and drummer Vikram Yesudas.

While the Muse Room Festival was unexpectedly paused sometime last month, they’re still teaming up with Eat.fit Café to put together intimate performances from some of India’s must-hear talent. The series of gigs continue throughout different locations in Bangalore and this week features singer-songwriter Anirudh Ravi. Best known for his work with indie rock band In The Now and currently part of indie/acoustic trio Cinema of Excess, Anirudh brings a vulnerability and slight sense of self-deprecative humour to his shows. Currently also working on a solo album alongside new Cinema of Excess material, the singer-songwriter is influenced by artists like Cat Stevens, Iron & Wine and Eddie Vedder.

On her way from shows in Denmark and Tel Aviv, deep techno producer and DJ Lilly Palmer originally hails from Zurich but is based out of Amsterdam. As part of a three city India tour, Palmer performs at KittyKo at the LaLiT Ashok hotel in Bangalore. Embedded in Europe’s booming electronic music circuit, Palmer’s weapons of choice are captivating basslines, wistful synth patterns and a sense of urgency that can change it all over and over to meet dancefloor requirements. Although only occasionally releasing her own techno mixes on different record labels, Palmer is a regular on radio shows and podcasts for techno diehards, offering sublime mixes.
