FOXBORO — Another day, another Antonio Brown sighting.
After practicing for the second straight day, all signs point to Brown getting on the field for the Patriots when they travel to Miami Sunday. If that happens, Brown, who wore number 17 at practice Thursday, will remain under an intense spotlight.
Not surprisingly, the star receiver is making an impact at practice. His talent shines through and defensive backs who used to chase him when he starred with the Steelers are now happy to see him in practice.
“AB is AB,” said the Pats’ Duron Harmon. “We all know what he brings to the table.”
Harmon noted that integrating any new player into the New England system isn’t easy but the team is used to it. Josh Gordon, for example, joined the team a few weeks into the 2018 season.
“There are new guys that come to our team each and every year, and a lot of great players,” Harmon said. “You see why they’re great. You see how hard they work and you see why it carries over and why they had success before.”
Adding a player like Brown is not what Miami head coach Brian Flores was looking for this week. He knows the Patriots’ weapons inside and out from his years as an assistant coach in Foxboro but now needs to plan for even more challenges.
“We’re preparing for everyone,” Flores said. “So, AB, [Julian] Edelman, [Josh] Gordon, [Ryan] Izzo, backs. We’re preparing for everyone. They’ve got a good team, so that’s a lot of guys to prepare for. He’s as dynamic as it gets from a receiver standpoint but they’ve got a lot of good players there. Big task ahead of us.”
Brown enjoyed one of his best playoff games ever in a Steelers-Dolphins wildcard matchup three years ago. He ran past the Dolphins for 124 yards and two touchdowns on just five catches. Interestingly, No. 17 hasn’t carried much success with the Patriots. Among the wide receivers who’ve worn the number of late are Dedric Ward, Taylor Price, Aaron Dobson and Riley McCarron.
