UMass Dartmouth junior quarterback Stephen Gacioch earned the first New England Football Writers Division II/III Gold Helmet award of the 2019 season.

Gacioch, a Tiverton resident and former Tiverton High School standout, accounted for 352 yards of offense — including 338 passing — and tossed a program record six touchdowns as the Corsairs routed Alfred State 54-7 in the season opener. In 18 career games, Gacioch now has more than 3,500 passing yards and 32 touchdowns.

He’s the first UMass Dartmouth player to earn the Golden Helmet award since Shaquille Brummit in 2014. Gacioch also was named the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
