GREATER NOIDA: Four persons of a family have been booked for abetment of suicide after an 18-year-old girl from Dadri hung herself from the ceiling on September 7. The accused have been identified as Vishal Gupta, his brother Rahul, father Gyanendra, mother Sunita and a friend Tushar. They were booked after the family of the girl filed a complaint against them a day after she passed away.
Police said Vishal had lured the woman into a relationship with him for the past few years but when the girl’s family approached his parents for marriage, they allegedly raised demands of cash and an i20 car. The wedding was cancelled.
“On September 7, information about the suicide was shared on the police helpline. A team visited the spot and sent the body for autopsy. The family said the girl went into depression after the wedding with Vishal was called off. They later filed a complaint accusing the man’s family of abetting the suicide,” said Dinesh Singh, the SHO of Dadri police station.
The family mentioned in the complaint that even after the wedding was called off, Vishal kept harassing her. “We had come to know about their relationship a year ago. I rebuked my daughter and asked her to focus on studies. But she did not listen to me and expressed her wish to marry Vishal. I met Vishal and his family and he said he loved my daughter too. His parents agreed to the marriage, but raised unreasonable dowry demands,” said her father.

Police said they lodged a case after a preliminary investigation suggested that the girl was on a video call moments before she committed suicide and had also sent her pictures on Whatsapp. The family was booked under IPC sections 506 (criminal Intimidation), 306 (abetment to suicide), 420 (cheating).
