PK Mishra has been appointed the new principal secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi while PK Sinha has been appointed as the principal adviser, an official statement said on Wednesday.

Mishra took over his new assignment on Wednesday, the statement said. He was the additional principal secretary to the prime minister and was holding the rank of a cabinet minister.

His appointment was necessitated after Nripendra Mishra resigned as the principal secretary to the prime minister. Modi had asked him to continue for two weeks.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has also approved the appointment of PK Sinha, currently functioning as Officer on Special Duty in the Prime Minister's Office, as principal adviser with effect from Sept. 11, 2019.
