Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi told the United Nations Body to combat at desertification session that in the coming 11 years till 2030 India would convert the 2.6 crores hectares of barren land into fertile land. Besides deforestation the plastic is another cause of damaging the fertility of land and making it barren. The UN Body’s main agenda to combat desertification to create a Global Water Action Agenda, which is central to land degradation neutrably strategy.
Mr.Modi told the UN Conference (COP-14) that the time has come for the entire world to say goodbye to single use of plastic. He said the India would put an end to single waste plastic in the coming years. India is committed to the development of environment friendly substitutes and also an efficient plastic collection and disposed method, desertification affects over two third of countries of the world.
There is a compelling case for action on land front combine this with the water crisis facing the world. Efforts with full zeal be made to augment the water supply, water recharge and slowing down water run-off and retaining moisture in the soil. The India Government has launched a programme to double the income of farmers by increasing crop yield by various measures.
This including land restoration and micro irrigation with motto of per drop more crop and focus on zero budget natural farming. But in India there is a peculiar situation, while we are talking about the increasing the income of farmer by double by increasing the farm yield at the same time when there bumper crops of foodgrains like wheat, rice and vegetables like potato, tomato, onion, garlic etc.
the price crash and farmers even could not get cost of production and go under heavy loss. Under such situation how the income of farmers can be doubled by increasing yield, when bumper crops are proving disaster. There is vast difference between ‘Barren’ and ‘desert’ land. A rocky land is barren for agriculture purpose but it a valuable as open stone quarry.
The stone is of great use in our life. It is an essential commodity. It is said in Nature nothing is waste and useless. The desert land of Arab nations productive land of petro crude. It is monopoly of desert.
The desert are fertile in petro crude produce. Desert are natural creation and cannot be converted o fertile land In India sand has become ‘Yellow gold’ and its exploitation damaging our river bids. Like deforestation of forest, it is desandation of river beds.
We have desert in Rajasthan and Gujarat. Possibility and method should be explored to supply sand from the desert land like supply of salt from sea coast of Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
The barren land can be put to other use as economic venture.
