KOLKATA: Union minister
Smriti Irani on Tuesday took on chief minister
Mamata Banerjee for her opposition to the National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercise and writing to the PM on the future of around 10,500 employees in two nationalised banks headquartered in Kolkata following bank mergers.
Illegal infiltrators will be dealt with as per law and the Constitution, she asserted. “No Indian will be left out... we are dedicated towards protecting the rights of the citizens of the country,” Irani said on NRC, addressing the media at an interactive session to mark 100 days of
Narendra Modi government 2.0.
On bank mergers, the minister for women and child development and textiles added: “Union finance minister has said that not a single job will be lost due to bank mergers. The fact that the chief minister of Bengal has taken a stand against the government of India is nothing new.”
Irani came down heavily on Trinamool Congress for its stand on NRC and illegal immigrants.
TMC chose not to comment.
