Europe will have a scheduled non-stop air link to the Canadian capital of Ottawa from next year.
Lufthansa will be (unless another carrier pips it to the post) the only airline operating transatlantic scheduled service between these two cities.
It is expected the service will be operated in conjunction with the carrier’s JV (joint-venture) partner Air Canada.
Services will operate daily, except Wednesday and Friday, between its Frankfurt hub and Ottawa.
A 279-seater A340-300 will be deployed with business, premium economy and regular economy seating.
Advance schedules are:
Flight LH472 Frankfurt-Ottawa 1345-1605
Flight LH473 Ottawa-Frankfurt 1750-0715 (following day)
As might be expected, this flight is timed for connections to and from other European points plus destinations further afield.
From the UK, flying transatlantic via Frankfurt involves a backhaul. But this may be acceptable to some travellers knowing they can fly directly from Europe to the Canadian capital.
Other Lufthansa Group members (including Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Swiss) will be marketing this route and there will be support from other Star Alliance members like Air Canada and Scandinavia’s SAS.
And one must not forget that it will provide Ottawa with global links via Frankfurt.
Ottawa will become Lufthansa’s fourth Canadian destination. Other cities are Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.
Lufthansa says tickets for its Frankfurt-Ottawa flight will go on sale today (Weds September 11).
