KOCHI: 'Poorvikam', a telemedicine project for tribal community at Pukayilappara by the Care and Share International Foundation, an NGO started by actor Mammootty, has been launched.

The project being implemented in association with Rajagiri Hospital, Aluva, was inaugurated by Thalaivar Guruswami of Kammalankudi tribal colony at Marayoor on Monday. The programme was launched to mark the 10th anniversary of the foundation.

The project, in association with cancer care division of the hospital, would also ensure free cancer screening for tribeswomen.

The telemedicine facility at Pukayilappara near Vazhachal has been established with help from divisional forest office there.

Mammootty said the project would be extended to other areas as soon as infrastructure facilities become available. Cancer care programme is headed by Dr Sanju V Syriac. "Those who wish to organize medical camps can do so by contacting a helpline number through tribal promoters," said Rajagiri Hospital director Fr Johnson Vazhappilly.
