Railway Police Force (RPF) officials were in for a shock when they found 43 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) stashed in the toilet of a train. They stumbled on the huge consignment after they caught a teenager wandering around Ahmedabad railway station on Tuesday afternoon.

RPF personnel apprehended 19-year-old Rehan Abrar Kureshi from the 12547 Agra Fort-Ahmedabad Express around 2.30 pm after they grew suspicious of his activities. Kureshi had lingered around the station late after the others had de-boarded and left the railway station.

When he was confronted, Kureshi told the cops he was going back to S5 coach of the train to use the washroom. However, RPF Inspector Gracious Fernandez said that his men grew more suspicious and searched him. They found a screwdriver on him.

He was detained and on grilling him, he took the RPF officials to the toilet of S5 coach. With the screwdriver he was carrying, he opened up an overhead panel in the toilet and revealed the cache of IMFL stacked neatly next to the flush tank.

UP resident caught

RPF suspect that Kureshi, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, currently residing in Kalupur, may have smuggled bottles of liquor earlier as well. However, the next phase of the investigation would be carried out by Government Railway Police (GRP).

Kureshi was handed over to them where a complaint was filed under the Prohibition Act.

Officers said this was a novel method of smuggling liquor which not be seen earlier in Ahmedabad.

Police Inspector Fernandez said, "We will look into this new system of bringing in Indian Made Foreign Liquor through trains."
