CM to open Onam celebrations today

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the week-long Onam celebrations at the Nishagandhi auditorium at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Colourful programmes will be held across 29 venues across the capital city till September 16. National award-winning actor Keerthi Suresh and actor Tovino Thomas will be the chief guests at Tuesday’s inauguration.

Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran will preside over the function. Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan will deliver the Onam message. The highlight of the first evening is a music programme by playback legend K.S. Chitra, which will begin at 7.15 p.m. at Nishagandhi. The Onam celebrations will come to a close with a procession on September 16. On Monday, C.K. Hareendran, MLA, inaugurated the decorative lighting at Kowdiar, Vellayambalam, Kanakakkunnu and Museum. The KSEB has provided the lighting with the help of the Electrical Inspectorate. K.S. Sabarinadhan, MLA, inaugurated the food fest at the Kanakakkunnu Palace grounds.
