Bengaluru: Former Air Force officer dies, his organs save atleast six people

BENGALURU: A 57-year-old retired Air Force officer from Jayanagar who was decreed brain dead became a savior for minimal six people in Bengaluru.
The vital organs of the man, who was declared brain dead on September 7 in Fortis hospital were transplanted to needy patients who had registered with Jeevasarthakate, the cadaver organ transplant approval authority, government of Karnataka.

His heart valves were sent to Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, and liver for a 61-year-old male patient from Narayana Health. His both kidneys were sent to Manipal hospital that were transplanted to a 11-year-old male and 66-year-old female patient, right kidney to a 66-year-old female patient. His corneas were harvested by Lions blood bank.
On September 4, the man suddenly started vomiting and got unconscious. He was admitted to Fortis hospital and was on ventilator for three days. He was declared brain dead on September 7 and the family consented for organ donation.
