4 Bangladeshis held for running fake currency racket in Silchar

SILCHAR: Police on Sunday evening arrested four Bangladeshi nationals from Silchar for allegedly running a fake currency racket in the city. 10 fake riyal notes, three original 100 riyal notes, six mobile phones and five Bangladeshi passports were seized from them.
The arrested have been identified as Md Ripon Khan (32), Md Suman Fakir (30), Md Assad Udjjaman (30) and Jamal Munshi (35). Another accomplice, Md Kabir Sardar, managed to escape when the raid took place.
The arrested persons having Bangladeshi passports are residents of Gopalganj district under Dhaka division of Bangladesh, Lakhipur SDPO Anurag Sharma said. The operation was jointly conducted with the help of Banskandi and Silchar police, he added.
According to police, the Bangladeshi nationals had cheated one person of Banskandi last month. The same men were also trying to cheat another person by exchanging fake Saudi Arabia riyals with two lakhs of Indian currency. Two separate cases have been lodged against them.

Following initial interrogation at the Banskandi police station in Cachar district, four Bangladeshi nationals were produced before the court of the sub-divisional judicial magistrate on Monday. The court sent them to four days of police custody, sources said.
A police official said that the imposters had entered India through the Tripura custom gate on August 28 and had been staying in a hotel at Rangirkhari locality of the town. The arrested persons are allegedly involved with an international gang, police added.
