KANPUR: Members of Uttar Pradesh Prantiya Vyapar Mandal on Monday staged a protest at Kesco office in Shivala area against hike in power tariff. The protesters rung bells to symbolically wake up Kesco officials so that they could attend to their grievances.

The protesting traders also wore black bands. They said that as trade and business was facing a slump owing to economic slowdown, the state government move to hike power tariff would impact them further.
A protesting trader, Abhimanyu Gupta, said, “Instead of supporting the business community, the government has hiked power tariff, putting undue pressure on the traders and businessmen.” Gupta said this price hike is illegal and unless government withdraws the same, the traders’ community will continue to protest.
