Tirupur: Students of NIFT TEA College of Knitwear Fashion drew paintings on more than 900 eggs to create awareness against suicide on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday.
They conceptualized the precautionary measures with various kinds of paintings to mark the ‘World suicide prevention day’.
Students of NIFT TEA wanted to create awareness to prevent people from committing suicides, and they chose the art on eggs to convey the message.
“We assumed each egg as humans and our students applied their creativity and painted to reflect the minds of the people from different walks of life, and different state of minds. The paintings were made to explain about all the expressions of human, from joy to sorrow,” said G Boopathy Vijay, an assistant professor, Apparel fashion and design department of the college. He said 45 students from the department tried different types of paintings including doodle and warli in this attempt, and they applied paints in attractive colours to create the art.
“We also tried to show how people from particular background or situation tend to commit suicide. For instance, farmers in distress and students who faced failure were among them. We arranged the painted eggs in circles akin to solar system. The eggs in the centre of the solar system were conceptualized as the people with intellectual minds or very positive. In the last circle, the people, with ‘weak minds’, who have tendency of moving towards suicide, were depicted,” he added.
R Raghamutharasi, AFD first year student, said, “We witnessed people like S Anitha of Ariyalur committing suicide after she could not clear NEET exam. Women who are being harassed in the name of dowry often take the extreme step. We hope that our art on the eggs reflect those issues and emphasize that the people should be positive and struggle to achieve their goals or attain their comfort zones.”
