Apple on Tuesday introduced the Apple Watch Series 5, the latest version of the world’s best-selling smartwatch. The new watch – which Apple announced on stage at its annual iPhone event in Cupertino, California – is an update to last year’s version, the Apple Watch Series 4.
As was rumoured before, Apple is making the Apple Watch Series 5 available in titanium and ceramic finishes, in addition to aluminium or stainless steel. The watch comes in two sizes: 40mm and 40mm. Aluminum models come in silver, gold and space gray. Meanwhile, Stainless steel models come in gold and space black. Apple Watch Series 5 (GPS) will start at Rs 40,900 and the GPS + Cellular variant is priced at Rs 49,990 for the base variant.
Apple Watch Series 5 has a lot of new features, although the design remains the same as the previous model. First, the watch has an always-on display. So essentially, the Watch Series 5 adjusts the brightness of the new always-on display. It sports an LTPO display with an adaptive refresh rate. It can go down to 1Hz, or one screen refresh per second.
The new Apple Watch also features a built-in compass. There will be an app that tells you your latitude, longitude and direction. Plus, there is also an option for emergency calling.

And, of course, the watch has the built-in heart-rate tracking, including a new low-heart-rate notification and atrial-fibrillation detection. The watch also lets you take an electrocardiogram, or ECG. The Apple Watch Series 5 is water-resistant to 50 meters and has built-in GPS, like the previous-generation model. The watch offers 18 hours of battery life. Apple’s newest smartwatch runs watchOS 6.
Pre-orders start today and the watch will be available on September 20.
