An advocate was arrested for collecting money and a smartwatch from a techie to help him secure bail in a drunk driving case.
On August 16, Repalli Venkata Pavan Kumar was caught for the drunk driving offence. “To avoid imprisonment, Mr. Kumar met advocate J. Bhanu Prasad, who demanded ₹70,000 and his smartwatch to help him get bail and release his seized car,” KPHB Colony police inspector S. Laxmi Narayana said.
However, on August 28, he was sent to jail for three days. He later realised that he was cheated by advocate Bhanu Prasad, following which he approached police and lodged the complaint. The advocate was arrested on Sunday and later produced in the court.
Vehicles checked
The Organisation for Counter Terrorist Operations (OCTOPUS), an elite anti-terror outfit of Telangana police, along with Pahadi Shareef police conducted vehicle checking on Nehru Outer Ring Road here on Monday.
Police said the ‘general’ vehicle checking, which started at 4 p.m. near Tukkuguda ORR, lasted for two hours with OCTOPUS teams holding highly sophisticated weapons. “We did not find anything or anyone suspicious. None was detained,” police said.
Lineman arrested
ACB sleuths on Monday arrested an electricity lineman of Shahpur section in Shamshabad for accepting a bribe of ₹28,000 from the complainant. “The accused, Kasi Ramulu, demanded bribe from Gaini Thirupathi Reddy of Ootpally village for shifting the electric meter inside the latter’s new house and give permanent connection from the pole,” an official release said.
