GURUGRAM: A
Rajasthan resident, who allegedly made and supplied over 700 illegal
weapons to his clients in Gurugram, Mewat and parts of Rajasthan over several years, was arrested by the crime unit of Gurugram police on Monday. Police have recovered seven illegal weapons from his possession.
According to police, unlike other
illegal arms dealers in north India who procure weapons from Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and UP and supply them in Delhi-NCR, Ummar Khan (35) was involved in both manufacturing and supplying country-made pistols and rifles.
Khan, a resident of Bharatpur district in Rajasthan, has been manufacturing illegal
arms for the past 5-6 years.
During interrogation, Khan revealed that he doesn’t trust anyone, so he did all the work by himself. He used to make illegal weapons at home and then scout for customers. He also used to carry weapons to show them to prospective customers. Khan would also make arms on specific orders by clients. They were sold for Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000 depending on the make of the weapon and the customer’s ability to pay.
ACP (crime) Shamsher Singh said Khan had come to the city on Monday to sell his weapons. The Sohna crime team got a tip-off and arrested him near Vatika Mod in Sohna, he said. A fresh case was registered against him at Sadar police station under different sections of the Arms Act.
“He was earlier arrested by Rajasthan police and has been involved in making and selling arms illegally for the past 5-6 years. So far, he has sold around 700 illegal arms. We’re interrogating him to get more details about his operation,” Singh said.
Police are also trying to get details of his customers and associates.
