They would watch their favourite actors — Allu Arjun, Salman Khan, Dr. Rajkumar, Puneeth Rajkumar, Tabu and Priyanka Chopra — in awe as they played roles of honest police officers in popular movies and TV shows. These roles inspired these children to grow up and become police officers some day. This dream came true for five such children in the city.
Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao met five children diagnosed with critical illnesses on Monday. Make A Wish Foundation India and the city police helped make true the wishes of Syed Imad, Sravani Battal, Afarth Pasha, Mohammad Sakib and Ruthan Kuram.
All dressed in police uniforms, they started with a Guard of Honour, followed with an interaction with Mr. Rao, who gave them an insight into the life of a police officer. The children were made to talk on walkie-talkies and sign documents, among other activities usually done by officers. Their parents were also informed about the working system of the control room.
They got a ride in a police jeep and got to see the police dog squad.
Sravani, 8, said she took inspiration from cartoons of police catching culprits that inspired her to become a woman police officer. “I like this profession and want to serve the people of this country,” added Afarth Pasha.
Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Rao said, “We are happy to help these children see their wish of being a police officer come true for a day. This is in line with our motto of serving people and being closer to the public. These children have brave hearts and we hope to have inspired them enough today to become real police officers when they grow up.”
Nazneen, the mother of Mohammad Sakib, who has been diagnosed with blood cancer, said, “He wants to walk on the same path as his uncle, who is also a police officer.”
