VIJAYAWADA: Five persons sustained grievous injuries, including a 14-year-old
girl, as groups owing allegiance to
YSRC and
TDP clashed against each other at Grandhasiri village under Atchampet mandal in Guntur district on Monday night.
According to Atchampet police, the tiff started around midnight over the parking of a two-wheeler and soon spiralled into a group
clash. Stones were pelted while the groups attacked each other with sticks.
Police said the two parties had personal grudges against each other which escalated the situation. The
injured persons were rushed to Sattenapalli government hospital for treatment.
The warring groups also vandalised each other’s properties and damaged tractors and two-wheelers.
A big stone hit the head of 14-year-old Pujitha, who was standing outside her house near the scene of fight. She was taken to Guntur government general hospital, where her condition worsened as she went into a coma. Police said the girl’s family are supporters of YSRC.
Another YSRC worker, Sakhamuru Venkaiah (45), too suffered serious injuries. Police have taken a few persons into custody and cases have been registered against members of both groups.
