At Mutthathara, they celebrate unity and togetherness

Thiruvananthapuram: For the residents of the Pratheeksha Flats at Muttathara this is their first Onam after relocating from relief camps in the district. The keys to the apartments were handed over to 188 families, who lived in close proximity to the sea, in November last year.
As people from various fishing hamlets became neighbours, it became a celebration of unity and togetherness at Muttathara.

According to P Sunil, executive member of Pratheeksha Residents’ Association, the challenge of charting out an Onam celebration was not an easy task. “Most of us met after relocating here and so preparing a list of programmes was not an easy task but we managed to do it during a core committee meeting that was held on Tuesday night. Most of the programmes are scheduled to take place on Wednesday. Events like dance, tug of war, musical chair, and lemon and spoon race are all scheduled to take place on Thiruonam day,” he said.
While most of the people are keen on celebrating Onam, there are also families who are not much interested in the celebrations as it is also their first Onam after losing their husbands, son and fathers who went missing during cyclone Ockhi. But they too assured full support to the residents’ association.
