Sri Lankan Navy arrests four fishermen

Four fishermen from Pudukottai district were arrested by Sri Lankan Navy on Monday when they were fishing near ‘Neduntheevu’.

Coastal Security Group sources said the fishermen set sail into the sea in a mechanised boat from Kottaipattinam jetty in the morning. They were fishing about 35 nautical miles off Kottaipattinam when they were held by the Lankan navy personnel on a charge of illegally entering their territorial waters. They were taken to Kankesanthurai naval base in the island nation for inquiry and arrested.

The sources gave the names of the arrested fishermen as C. Jerone, 24, S. Kemblus, 56, P. Mexon, 29, and M. Ravi, 19, all from Kottaipattinam.
