Rewa district awarded for increased child sex ratio at the time of birth

Rewa district has been awarded at the national level for its consistently excellent performance in child sex ratio at the time of birth under the ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ scheme.  Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smt. Smriti Zubeen Irani presented the award to District Programme Officer Smt. Pratibha Pandey in New Delhi today. Rewa district is included in 10 selected districts of the country.

First the state was awarded by the then Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smt. Maneka Gandhi at the national level in New Delhi in last January for better implementation of the “Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao” scheme.
Various awareness programmes were conducted in Rewa district under the scheme. Har Ghar Dastak, Shakti Chaupal, Nukkad Natak, puppet shows etc. were organized at selected villages with low sex ratio in the district.

At the same time, families with only daughters having acquired the highest position in the class were felicitated. Workshops, awareness rally, human chains, rangoli competitions were organized to prevent female foeticide.
Janmotsav and Bitiyan Utsav was celebrated in anganwadi kendras. Women and Child Development Department organized workshops in schools and colleges at district and project level. Newborn babies and their families were welcomed in hospitals.

Rewa, Bhind, Morena, Gwalior, Datia and Tikamgarh are among the six districts of the state selected for excellent performance in the scheme. The child sex ratio at birth in Rewa district was 885 according to the 2011 census.
The district was included in the scheme in April 2016. The child sex ratio then was 919 which has increased to 934 in the year 2018-19.
