A total of 700 cyclists took part in an event to create awareness on blood stem cell donation on Sunday.

It was organised by DATRI, a not-for-profit organisation that has an unrelated Blood Stem Cell Donor registry, to mark the World Marrow Donor Day.

According to a press release, participants from all major cycling and marathon groups, corporates and public took part in the event, DATRI Cycle to Gift a Life 2019.

Eight-year-old Abhinav G cycled his first 100 km during the event. Previously, he held the record for the longest non-stop cycling for 81.7 km in 3 hours and 32 minutes.

The objective of the event was to spread awareness about blood stem cell donation and expand the registry with more blood stem cell donation. DATRI has more than 4,13,879 registered voluntary donors and has facilitated more than 600 blood stem cell donations, the release said.
