Cape Town - German sprinter Max Walscheid has joined Team Dimension Data for their 2020 season.

The 26-year-old brings a wealth of experience since turning professional in 2012.

In 2019, the German had 22 Top 10 finishes including a second place finish at Schelderprijs.

He is currently competing in his second Grand Tour, the Vuelta a Espana with Team Sunweb.

"I'm extremely thrilled about the opportunity to join team NTT. The team offers me exactly the opportunity I was looking for at this point my career," said Walscheid.

"We share the same goals, our interests were a perfect match and I'm looking forward to working in a new environment which is not only a world class cycling team, but so much more.

"I had a great time with Sunweb, and during the past four years I grew a lot in the team. It's not easy to say goodbye but new challenges are ahead and I can’t wait to start racing for Team NTT," ended Walscheid.

"Max is a very exciting addition to our team for the future. He is a big, powerful sprinter who is going to add depth to our roster, and brings with him a history of challenging for the top step of the podium," said team principal, Douglas Ryder.

"We look forward to him now having that opportunity with us to compete for the top step while also being able to play a supporting role for other riders too. We wish him all the best for the rest of the current season before welcoming him in what's going to be a very exciting 2020."
