Following discovery of some abandoned boats on the coast in Sir Creek in Gujarat and specific intelligence inputs of infiltration of Pakistani commandos or trained terrorists of Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed, security along the southern coast has been intensified.
The patrolling by all security agencies such as Indian Coast Guard and Coastal Security Police was reportedly scaled up after Lt General SK Saini, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Southern Command, had said that the army has got inputs that there may be terror attacks in the southern part of India and peninsular India, said a senior police officer.
Local police in all cities have also been reportedly alerted, sources in intelligence said.
Sagar Kavach
Meanwhile the two-day ‘Sagar Kavach’, a joint anti-terror exercise by Navy, Coast Guard, Coastal Security Police, local police and the elite anti-terror outfits such as NSG (National Security Guards) and Octopus, is being held in the city from September 18.
A coordination meet will be held on September 12, said a senior police officer.
‘Sagar Kavach’ was designed and implemented after 26/11 (2008) Mumbai attack, in which 10 sea-borne terrorists of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, carried out about 12 coordinated attack in Mumbai killing at least 174 people and injuring over 300.
