TIRUPUR: Two
motorcycle-borne miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a movie theatre in
Mannarai in the city on Monday morning.
The theatre, owned by AIADMK functionary V Subramaniam, was screening recently released Zombie, a police officer said. “Employees of the theatre were having dinner after the night show when they saw the men hurling a petrol-filled liquor bottle with a burning wick. But it fell 50m before the gate. The duo managed to escape though the employees gave chase. No damage was reported,” he said.
The incident was captured by CCTV cameras at the theatre. “The footage shows the pillion rider throwing the bottle. Some petrol leaked from the bottle drenched their shirts, which also caught fire. But they managed to put out the fire before fleeing from the place,” the officer said. “The employees suspect that the culprits could be among the three drunk men, who had arrived at the theatre to buy tickets for the night show. But the employees had refused them tickets citing that they were drunk. But the trio refused to budge, only to be driven out by the police personnel, who were on patrol.”
The Tirupur north police are yet to register a case.
