KOLKATA: Police on Saturday arrested 30 persons for disorderly conduct, seized three motorcycles and even arrested a Gorky Terrace hookah parlour manager for running beyond permissible hours. Police said several teams of the city police’s detective department raided different night clubs and bars with live music in central and south Kolkata. The raids, police said, were part of a sustained drive to crackdown on disorderly conduct in the city’s party zones.
An officer said: “We had been receiving several complaints and information on misbehaviour by people outside these nightclubs and singing clubs. These complaints have been more in the recent past with the onset of the festive season and weekend shopping more people tend to stay on the roads till late. The raids will now continue.”
Several teams arrested the 30 people for disorderly conduct, some misbehaving in public in a drunken state. These arrests were made primarily in Park Street, Shakespeare Sarani and central Kolkata police station areas – Hare Street and Bowbazar.

Police said: “The manager of a cafe in Gorky Terrace was arrested. The cafe, which also has a hookah parlour was running till 1:45am, which is beyond permissible hours.”
Restaurant-owners greeted the crackdown. “These are the places, which prefer to remain away from public glare and cater to a particular clientele. It is important to make sure that they are booked and made to follow the rule,” said an official of the Hotel and Restaurants Association of Eastern India (HRAEI).
