Rly ticket checker misbehaves with traveller, imposes heavy fine

Ludhiana: Incident of verbal spats between frequent passengers and ticket checking staff deputed at the city railway station are on the rise during the past few days.
In a recent incident which came to light on Sunday, a frequent traveller complained that one of the ticket checkers misbehaved with him for not having ticket of one of the intercity express trains.
The complainant said despite having a monthly pass of all the express trains running between Phagwara and Ludhiana railway station, one of the ticket checkers deputed at the city station imposed a heavy penalty on him without listening to him.
The ticket checker also allegedly abused him took the complainant’s Aadhaar card without his permission and started blackmailing him by claiming that if he did not the penalty, he would face prosecution under the Railway Act.
He said: “I showed my monthly pass to the ticket checker, but he still charged me with a heavy penalty by issuing a challan for travelling without ticket.”

He said: “I have taken the matter before the railway authorities concerned and registered the same in the complaint book for further course of action.”
Sources claimed that due to pressure of fulfilling specific target of collecting fine from travelers without ticket, ticket checkers charged passengers with tickets. Ludhiana railway station director, Tarun Kumar, said: “The matter has been reported before the railway authorities. We will call the complainant for further statement and take required action against the ticket checker after fulfilling all formalities of the railway norms.”
