Fieldwork on 7th economic census starts in city

Ludhiana: For providing disaggregated information on various operational and structural aspects of all establishments in the country, the Union ministry of statistics and programme implementation (MoSPI) is carrying out the seventh economic census (EC), the fieldwork for which started in the Ludhiana district on Monday.
Deputy commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal flagged off the teams from the district administrative complex.
While providing information, deputy commissioner and chairman of district economic census commission Pradeep Kumar Agrawal stated that this time, the common service centres (CSC) e-Governance Services India Limited, which is a special-purpose vehicle under the Union ministry of electronics and information technology, would be the implementing agency for the EC.
The training of field officers, supervisors and other staff to be involved in this census has already been organized. He also informed that the participants were trained on the key concepts and definitions, processes, digital platform and application to be used for the enumeration (data capture and supervision) in the field.
He added that according to various sections of the Collection of Statistics Data Act, 2008, data would be collected through a door-to-door survey of every household and commercial establishment.
Agrawal further said that all the collected data would be kept confidential and it would be used only for framing of policies and welfare schemes by the government.

He stated that data collected by the field staff would be verified by supervisors by visiting every household and commercial establishment. The deputy commissioner also said that for the benefit of the field staff as well as the residents, toll-free number 180030003468 has also been established and a help desk in the regional language has also been set up.
Special web page http://mospi.nic.in/7theconomic-census has also been developed on the MoSPI website. Agrawal has appealed to the residents and commercial establishments of Ludhiana district to assist the field staff for the census work.
