Ludhiana: The special task force (STF) of Ludhiana Range has arrested two drug peddlers with 220 g heroin. The accused are brothers-in-law who are into drug peddling from past one year.
They have been identified as Ramesh Kumar, 36, and Jagatpal, 31, of Manohar Nagar, Model Town. The accused were arrested from near Manohar Nagar, Dhoori Line, following a tip-off.
Inspector Harbans Singh, in-charge, STF, Ludhiana Range, said the accused were going towards Ghora Colony to supply heroin on their scooter when the police got a tip-off. The police then set up a check-post where the accused were stopped. The team found heroin from under the seat of their scooter.
An official said Jagatpal worked as a labourer at a cycle parts manufacturing unit and Ramesh was a fish seller.
“Ramesh has two criminal cases against him, including a drugs case and a clash. He was sent to two years in jail under the NDPS Act and came out of the jail around one-and-a-half years ago on bail. He then again started drug peddling,” said the official.
He said Jagatpal started drug peddling with Ramesh a year ago to earn easy money.
The official said the police were trying to know from where the accused got heroin.
