Gold worth Rs 32 lakh seized from passengers at Chennai airport

CHENNAI: Customs officials at Chennai international airport seized gold worth Rs 31 lakh from two passengers on Monday.
Ravuthar Naina Mohammed, 37, of Ramanathapuram and Noor Mohammed,59, of Kancheepuram, who arrived here from Singapore in an Air India flight, were intercepted at the exit of the arrival hall on suspicion of carrying gold.

Thy were searched. The duo were found to have concealed gold in rubbery paste form in their rectums. On extraction by heat treatment, two gold ingots weighing 810 gram of 24 K purity, valued at Rs 32 lakh, were recovered.
Examination of their checked-in luggage resulted in recovery of 20 old and used laptops valued at Rs 1 lakh.
