5-day Ganesh festival celebrated at NAWPC

Pune: Visually-challenged and hearing-challenged students of National Association For The Welfare Of Physically Challenged (NAWPC) in Pune celebrated Ganesh festival for five days by organising various activities, including cultural programmes.

NAWPC Founder-President Rahul Deshmukh said, “Every student from our hostel participated in the festivities, including activities like dancing, singing and several other competitions. Students also contributed to decorating the pandal and performed the Ganesh Aarti.”

NAWPC provides advanced education to the students, who are visually-challenged or hearing-challenged, and runs a hostel for them.

The facility is utilised by 150 students, ranging from class XI to post-graduate students. 

Daulat Shaikh, a 23-year-old Master of Arts (MA) student, said, “After five days of Ganesh festival celebration, we enjoyed the immersion procession on Saturday.”
The students, along with NAWPC members, sang ‘Shree Ganesh Vandana’ every day.

NAWPC Coordinator Devata Deshmukh said. “Students played the dhol tasha with girls participating with equal enthusiasm during the immersion process.”

Deshmukh mentioned that even students from the Muslim community participated with festive fervour. Parveen, a 19-year-old Class XI student, said she danced, performed aarti and enjoyed a lot during the festival. 

Sultan Beg, a 20-year-old student of Bachelor of Arts (BA), said. “I enjoyed dancing on Laxmi Road during Ganesh visarjan (immersion). It was such a joyful moment for each one of us celebrating this festival with a feeling of inclusiveness.”
